Jeanne and Bob Tanner have been teaching for many Years. Starting in Southampton at the Fagan School of Dancing they both took all the Ballroom Medals and Awards they could and were members of the Formation Team.

Jeanne soon took a professional qualification with the National Society of Teachers of Dancing and started to teach at the school, and Bob followed suit.

The dance school had to move premises so Jeanne and Bob decided to go it alone, and so the Tanner-J School of Dance was borne (Bob's surname with Jeanne's initial).

They taught Ballroom dancing in halls in the Southampton area and when Rock 'N' Roll became popular they soon had a young team that was very sucessful and were training pupils for medals.

They saw an advert in the Dance News for qualified teachers to teach in the Top Rank Victor Silvester Dance Studios. They applied and were accepted. They were thrown in at the deep end! They were made joint principals of the Gateshead Studios averaging 100 pupils a night and 250 on Saturdays!

When Top Rank opened a new studio in Plymouth they were offered it and they accepted. The studio was a huge success and had top junior attendances in the UK. For various reasons Top Rank decided to close many studios outside of London and so Jeanne and Bob once again decided to go it alone.

Their first Plymouth studio was on Mutley Plain but they later moved to Devonport where they have been teaching ever since!

The rest as they say is history!

Our very own dance group!
